We were brought in at the beginning of a large barn conversion into holiday lets and long-term rental units. The client wanted the lighting to create a ‘wow factor’ – to enhance the building’s original features, but keep the space feeling bright and modern. The biggest challenge was to light the huge open spaces of the main rooms – where original beams and ceiling trusses were left exposed – in a sympathetic and sensitive way. The scheme also needed to be low maintenance for the rental market. Outside we created a design that chimed with the rural location, but included movement sensors to allow safe entry and exit to all the individual properties. Wall lights were used to light the private terraces discretely – without light spill to the adjoining units. The final result gave a beautiful and cohesive feel to the buildings, both inside and out.
