Kitchen extension, NW5

The project was a typical Victorian Terrace kitchen extension, building into the side return and extending into the garden to create an open plan kitchen diner. The main issue was how to light the newly-created side return, that had a vaulted glass ceiling and so precluded the use of pendants. Using wall lights on the new exterior wall would limit the use of the space for pictures and furniture. The conundrum was resolved with adjustable wall lights, fitted to the old exterior wall, pointing down into the newly-created space. We also included lots of power points for floor and desk lamps to provide task lighting – as required, and as the furniture layout became clearer. Pendants above the island and downlights in the remaining area completed the scheme.

“Penny was recommended to us by a friend when we really didn’t know what we wanted for the lighting in our kitchen. She helped out with the whole process from coming up with ideas, to sourcing products, putting together a detailed plan and briefing our builder and electrician. She’s creative and practical. We’re really pleased with the results – thanks so much for your input Penny!”
